Meaning in English

O people of the world! Listen to what we shall do
in observance of our Paavai vow this sacred month.
We shall praise the Supreme Lord who rests upon the ocean of milk.

We will not eat ghee or drink milk until we bathe early in the morning,
we will not use collyrium or flowers for adornment,
and we will avoid all wrong deeds and harsh words.

We will live simply, give alms, and share with the needy,
seeking only spiritual upliftment and the Lord’s grace.
Thus, we will joyfully perform our vow, O Paavai!
