Thiruppavai Lyrics in English

Thiruppavai is a collection of 30 pasurams composed by Sri Andal (Godha Devi), the only woman among the twelve Alvars.
She was born in Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu, and grew up with deep devotion to Lord Vishnu.
From her childhood, Andal dreamt of marrying the Lord and expressed her love through these beautiful pasurams.
The Thiruppavai pasurams are sung during Margazhi month (Dhanurmasam) as prayers for purity, peace, and divine grace.
Each pasuram teaches the joy of devotion and surrender to Lord Narayana.

Meaning in English

Let us sing the glory of Lord Krishna,
who tore the beak of the demon bird Bakasura
and crushed the wicked Vatsasura under His feet.

The moon has set, Jupiter too has gone to rest,
the birds are chirping, announcing the dawn.
O beautiful girl! Why still lie on your bed?
Come out, bathe in the cool waters,
and join us with pure hearts — O Paavai, come with joy!
